“Stand Ye! Sons Of Liberty!” A poem by Stephen J. Dawson Jr.

Stand Ye! Sons Of Liberty! by Stephen J. Dawson Jr.

O! Such an ease for the Sunshine Patriot!
The Summer Soldier fights for Liberty
But a chill’d breeze blows him from his chariot
The foul weather troops that will protest the tea
Are the Red, White, and Blue Men who deserve the common man’s merit
Hell or High Water come to be, stand Ye! Sons of Liberty!

They fight for your homes so only your kin can inhabit
And all that you own, your earn’d property
The Freedom to be, as the right of thee, they’re thine advocate
Grant’d thereof, as mere luxury are defended by few who defend you and me
Hell or High Water come to be, stand Ye! Sons of Liberty!

Like Yeats’ Airman, no law bade them fight
But espirt de corps and keeping their countrymen Free
No Tyranny, no matter be it God’s Will Almight
Could ever forestall or cause plight of the Virtue, the pious before only Victory.
Hell or High Water come to be, stand Ye! Sons of Liberty!

Oft’ go without cheer, oft’ ne’er return
The Few and the Bold who sail oversea
Whether homecoming glory or ash in urn
Regardless, They go not expecting to see
Home soil again but be scatter’d at sea
Hell or High Water come to be, stand Ye! Sons of Liberty!

Most stand in the Summer with Sunshine excess
Unknowing their guilt. I, too, am guilty.
No man may forcibly occupy thine address
Nor oversee thine business, name, or defy privacy
Hell or High Water come to be, stand Ye! Sons of Liberty!

Admire the ardour of Those who were martyr’d
To severe the Bind In All Cases, and taxed slavery
To all the Fathers who miss their daughters,
I value your valour that transcends creed, ideal, and ethnicity
Hell or High Water come to be, stand Ye! Sons of Liberty!

Hell or High Water come to be,

Should God defy Thee.

And doth unjust decree,

May He beg for mercy,

For before him stands Ye!

Sons of Liberty!
